Tiger Woods Update

There has been a significant update in the golfing world this week, with Tiger Woods now considered highly unlikely to feature in any major USGA events in 2026.
According to Mike Whan, the 15-time major champion is not expected to tee it up at either the US Open at Shinnecock Hills this June, or the US Senior Open at Scioto Country Club in July.
Focus on Recovery
Woods is currently reported to be undergoing treatment in Switzerland following a car crash near his Florida home in March. The incident, which also involved a charge of driving under the influence, has once again highlighted the physical challenges he continues to face after multiple surgeries over the years.
Whan commented that while it would be “wonderful” to see Woods return, what he is dealing with right now goes far beyond golf. It’s a reminder that even the game’s greatest competitors are human first.
What This Means for Golf
Woods turned 50 in December, making him eligible for senior competition, and there had been speculation about a potential appearance on the Champions Tour. However, those plans now look firmly on hold.
Voices across the game, including legends like Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, have expressed their support, emphasising that his health and wellbeing are what truly matter.
A Moment to Reflect
For many golf fans, Woods has been the defining figure of the modern era. His absence from the biggest stages this season will undoubtedly be felt, but it also puts things into perspective.
At club level, it’s a reminder of why we play the game. Competition matters, but enjoyment, health and camaraderie matter more.
From everyone at Bonnyton Golf Club, we wish Tiger all the very best in his recovery.
