Belgium’s Thomas Detry secured his first-ever PGA Tour victory in emphatic fashion, triumphing by an impressive seven-shot margin at the WM Phoenix Open.

Detry finished the tournament at 24-under par, making history as the first Belgian golfer to win on the PGA Tour. American duo Michael Kim and Daniel Berger both shot final-round 67s, tying for second place on 17-under.

The only moment of slight tension came when Berger holed his fifth birdie of the round on the 15th, briefly reducing Detry’s lead to just two shots. However, Detry responded with remarkable composure, matching Berger’s birdie before delivering a stunning approach shot on the par-three 16th that set up a tap-in birdie. He proceeded to birdie the final three holes, putting an emphatic stamp on his victory.

A Moment to Celebrate

A jubilant Detry celebrated on the 18th green with his wife, Sarah, and their two children before being drenched in champagne by Matt Wallace, who had finished his tournament at six-under after a four-under final round.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout (66) and Jordan Spieth (68) finished a shot further back at 16-under, while Justin Thomas produced a spectacular finish by holing out from 102 yards for eagle at the last, tying for sixth place alongside Will Chandler and Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre.

Scheffler’s Challenge Fades

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler had begun the final round eight shots adrift but made a strong early charge, going four-under through the first six holes. However, his momentum stalled on the back nine, with bogeys on the 12th, 13th, and 16th, followed by a double bogey on the last, dropping him to a disappointing tie for 25th—his first finish outside the top 20 since the US Open last June.

Detry: A Dream Come True

Reflecting on his landmark victory, Detry said, "This is what dreams are made of. This is where I want to be, and it’s pretty incredible to have played the way I did. I’ve had plenty of chances in the past but never managed to put a statement win together like this."

With this breakthrough victory, Detry has firmly announced himself as a force to be reckoned with on the PGA Tour. His performance at TPC Scottsdale was nothing short of spectacular, and golf fans will no doubt be eager to see what’s next for the Belgian star.
