Robert MacIntyre edged out Adam Scott to win the Scottish Open, finishing 18 under par thanks to a decisive birdie on the final hole. Rory McIlroy, last year's winner, tied for fourth at 14 under as he prepares for The Open.
MacIntyre, a home favourite, leveraged an extraordinary stroke of luck to secure the title at the Renaissance Club. Trailing by two shots with three holes to play, he staged a dramatic comeback. On the par-five 16th, a brilliant approach shot set up an eagle after a free drop from knee-high rough due to a nearby sprinkler head.
This eagle brought MacIntyre level with Scott at 17 under par. The Scottish crowd erupted as MacIntyre sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th, sealing his remarkable victory.
