Scotland’s own Robert MacIntyre returned home in style this weekend, capturing victory at the 2025 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship — a tournament that tested every golfer’s patience and skill thanks to the wild weather brought by Storm Amy.

The event, played across three of Scotland’s most iconic courses — St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns — was shortened to 54 holes after Saturday’s play was cancelled due to high winds. Despite the disruption, MacIntyre remained calm and composed, mastering the tricky conditions to finish on 18 under par, four shots clear of Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton.

“Unbelievable” Win on Home Soil

“Unbelievable — any time you can win a golf tournament on these shores is unbelievable,” said MacIntyre after lifting the trophy.

He credited his success to his ability to control the ball in the wind:

“The biggest thing is being able to manoeuvre the golf ball. It’s about controlling it to land softly around the pins.”

He added with a grin,

“It’s brilliant. I don’t know how we’re going to celebrate after the celebration we had last Sunday. It’s a beautiful ending to a good week.”

In Command from the Start

MacIntyre set the tone early with a birdie on the opening hole at St Andrews. His iron play was razor sharp, and a precise approach from the rough on the 13th showed just how comfortable he was under pressure. A lone bogey on 17 couldn’t take the shine off an otherwise superb round.

Behind him, Hatton surged late with a fine 65 at St Andrews to claim second place, while John Parry and Richard Sterne shared third. Fellow Ryder Cup hero Tommy Fleetwood finished on nine under, rounding off a strong showing for the European contingent.

Star-Studded Pro-Am Field

The Dunhill Links is famous not just for the golf, but for its celebrity guests. This year’s event saw appearances from Andy Murray, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Douglas, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, adding some extra sparkle to an already special week in Scottish golf.

A Proud Moment for Scottish Golf

This win marks MacIntyre’s first individual victory since the Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club last year — a fitting return to form after his Ryder Cup heroics at Bethpage Black, where he helped Europe reclaim the trophy in front of a much less friendly crowd.

From all of us at Bonnyton Golf Club, congratulations to Robert MacIntyre — a proud Scot flying the flag high for golf in our homeland.
