PGA Tour Announces 2025 Player of the Year Shortlist

McIlroy, Scheffler, Fleetwood & Griffin in the running

The PGA Tour has revealed its shortlist for the prestigious 2025 Player of the Year / Jack Nicklaus Award, with four standout names making the final cut: Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Ben Griffin.

It’s been another remarkable season on Tour, with major wins, breakthrough performances, and career-defining moments from all four nominees.

Scottie Scheffler – The Favourite Again

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler continues to dominate world golf, winning six tournaments this season and only finishing outside the top ten three times in twenty starts.
His highlights included:

  • A stunning run of victories featuring The CJ Cup, PGA Championship, and The Memorial
  • Completing the third leg of the career Grand Slam with a four-shot win at The Open at Royal Portrush
  • Wins at the BMW Championship and Procore Championship
  • Claiming the Byron Nelson Award for the season’s lowest scoring average
Scheffler is chasing a fourth consecutive Player of the Year award.

Rory McIlroy – Grand Slam Glory
It was a storybook year for Rory McIlroy, who:
  • Won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
  • Edged JJ Spaun in a playoff to win The Players Championship
  • Captured the elusive career Grand Slam, taking The Masters after a dramatic playoff with Justin Rose
Another huge season for one of golf's modern greats.

Tommy Fleetwood – Finally a PGA Tour Champion

A special year for Tommy Fleetwood, who secured his long-awaited first PGA Tour victory at the Tour Championship, sealing the FedExCup title in the process.

Fleetwood also finished runner-up at the Travelers Championship, reaching a career-high World No. 3.

Ben Griffin – Breakout Season

American Ben Griffin produced one of the most complete seasons of his career:
  • Won the Zurich Classic alongside Andrew Novak
  • Added titles at the Charles Schwab Challenge and World Wide Technology Championship
  • Earned a well-deserved spot on Team USA for the Ryder Cup

Rookie of the Year Nominees Announced

The Tour also named its five contenders for the Arnold Palmer Award (Rookie of the Year):
  • Michael Brennan – Won the Bank of Utah Championship
  • Steven Fisk – Winner of the Sanderson Farms Championship
  • William Mouw – Took home the ISCO Championship
  • Aldrich Potgieter – Reached the FedExCup Playoffs after winning the Rocket Classic
  • Karl Vilips – Captured the Puerto Rico Open

A talented group and a strong sign of the next generation coming through.
