Olympics 2024: Team GB's Tommy Fleetwood Claims Silver as Scottie Scheffler Wins Gold in Men's Golf
American Scottie Scheffler clinched gold in the men's Olympic golf competition with a stellar final score of 19 under par at Le Golf National. Britain's Tommy Fleetwood took silver, finishing just one shot behind, while Hideki Matsuyama secured bronze.
Britain's Tommy Fleetwood earned a silver medal in men's golf at the Paris Olympics, finishing behind American world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at Le Golf National.
Fleetwood fired an impressive final-day 66, falling just one stroke short of Scheffler's 19 under par total. Scheffler had tied the course record with a remarkable nine-under 62, featuring six birdies in his back-nine 29.
The 33-year-old Southport native was tied with Scheffler with two holes to play, but a bogey on the 17th proved costly.
Despite the setback, Fleetwood described the achievement as "unbelievably special."
"There's part of me that's disappointed, of course, but at the same time, I never dreamt I would be an Olympic medallist," he said.
"I haven't been in the mix that much recently, and being back there, playing well, and feeling how that felt again, I enjoyed it so much. I'm unbelievably proud to be an Olympic medallist."
