Matt Fitzpatrick Claims Open de France Title with Impressive Victory at Le Golf National

Matt Fitzpatrick continued his outstanding 2026 season with a commanding three-shot victory at the FedEx Open de France at Le Golf National.
The Englishman began the final round with a five-shot advantage and, despite being put under pressure during the early stages, remained in control to secure his fourth worldwide victory of the year.
Fitzpatrick carded a final-round 70 to finish the tournament on 20 under par, three shots clear of Spain’s Angel Hidalgo. The victory also marked Fitzpatrick’s 11th DP World Tour title and his first win on the Tour since the DP World Tour Championship last November.
Another Big Win in a Brilliant 2026 Season
It has already been an exceptional year for Fitzpatrick.
Before arriving in France, he had collected three victories on the PGA Tour during 2026, winning the Valspar Championship, RBC
Heritage and Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
His latest success adds another significant title to that collection and underlines the consistency that has taken him to No 4 in the world rankings.
The final round was not entirely straightforward.
Eugenio Chacarra made a fast start in the group ahead, reducing Fitzpatrick’s overnight advantage and briefly getting within two shots of the leader.
However, Chacarra’s challenge suffered a major setback at the 13th when an errant tee shot and a subsequent visit to the water resulted in a double bogey.
Fitzpatrick took full advantage.
A superb approach into the 13th left him with a simple birdie before he rolled in a 20-foot putt at the 15th to restore a comfortable five-shot advantage.
From there, he safely negotiated the closing holes before a bogey at the 18th completed a final-round 70 and another impressive victory.
“I Used Them All in the End”
Speaking after his win, Fitzpatrick admitted that he did not have his best game throughout the final round but was pleased with the way he responded when the tournament tightened up.
He highlighted the importance of using every part of his game during the week, particularly when the pressure increased over the closing holes.
Hidalgo finished runner-up after a closing 67, with his performance also securing qualification for The Open at St Andrews next summer through The Open Qualifying Series.
Tom Vaillant, Matthieu Pavon, Kristoffer Reitan and Chacarra were among those finishing five shots behind Fitzpatrick on 15 under.
Ludvig Åberg also enjoyed a strong final day, producing a five-under-par 66 to move into a share of 11th position.
DP World Tour Heads to Scotland
Attention now turns to Scotland as the DP World Tour moves on to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The tournament will once again be played across three of Scotland’s most famous venues: Carnoustie, Kingsbarns Golf Links and the Old Course at St Andrews.
Robert MacIntyre heads into the event as defending champion, with another strong field expected for one of the standout weeks on the Scottish golfing calendar.
For golfers at Bonnyton, it should provide plenty of inspiration as another major week of professional golf gets underway on home soil.
