Hideki Matsuyama won the Sony Open in Hawaii with a stunning eagle on the first playoff hole after Russell Henley blew a five-shot lead.
Henley was six under par for the day and 24 under par for the tournament after nine holes at Waialae Country Club before the field began to catch up on him.
While playing in the last pairing with Matsuyama, Henley still had a one-shot lead at 18.
But, although Henley parred the final hole of normal play, Matsuyama birdied it with a two-putt to force the playoff. Matsuyama returned to the 18th hole and hit his 277-yard second shot within three feet of the pin, making the putt to win a victory he regarded highly.
"I'm really happy. This is the first tournament that a Japanese player won on the PGA Tour when Isao Aoki won here," Matsuyama said. "To follow him up, I'm over the moon."
