Kuchar and Son Share Emotional PNC Championship Triumph

Finishing on an incredible 33-under-par, the Kuchars closed the tournament with an 18-under-par final round, setting a new championship record and underlining their dominance from start to finish.

But this win was about far more than numbers.

The PNC Championship, a tournament built on family connections, carried special meaning for Matt this year following the passing of his father, Peter, who died suddenly in February. Peter had previously played alongside Matt in the event before stepping aside to allow his grandsons to take part.

Fighting back tears after the final hole, Matt spoke movingly about the moment, believing his father was “watching from above.” He gave Cameron the honour of tapping in the final putt — a symbolic and unforgettable moment for the family.

Cameron, who has committed to play college golf at TCU next year, played a starring role throughout the week. The duo made just two pars in the scramble format, countered by two eagles, as they broke the previous tournament record by five shots.

The PNC Championship, which began life as the Father-Son Challenge in 1995, brings together major champions and their families — a celebration of golf across generations.

For Matt Kuchar, a nine-time PGA Tour winner and former Players Championship champion, this victory will stand apart.

“Now to have this moment with the family,” he said, “it’s clearly missing one — but it’s very special.”

A fitting reminder that golf’s greatest moments are often about far more than the scorecard.
