JJ Spaun Seals Stunning US Open Win

It was a day of drama and determination. Starting one stroke behind overnight leader Sam Burns, Spaun’s chances appeared to unravel early, carding five bogeys in his first six holes. But a timely weather delay turned the momentum.

When play resumed, Spaun clawed his way back into contention, sinking clutch birdie putts at the 12th and 14th, before rebounding from a bogey at 15 with a vital two-putt birdie at the driveable 17th. Then came the unforgettable finish.

Needing only a two-putt on the final green to secure a one-shot lead, Spaun instead drained a sensational 65-footer for birdie, securing a two-stroke victory and sending the Oakmont crowd into raptures.

MacIntyre’s final-round 68 earned him second place, with Viktor Hovland finishing third. Tyrrell Hatton, Carlos Ortiz, and Cameron Young shared fourth, while world No.1 Scottie Scheffler finished tied-seventh.

It’s Spaun’s first win since the 2022 Valero Texas Open and marks a significant rise in his career, propelling him into the world’s top 10 and placing him firmly in the Ryder Cup conversation.

Spaun Reflects on Grit and Glory

Speaking after the round, Spaun said:

“I had to dig really deep after that rough start. The weather delay helped reset things mentally, and I just tried to fight my way back. That last putt – I’ll never forget it.”

His round of 72 was the only score under par for the tournament, finishing at one-under for the week—a true testament to both Oakmont’s difficulty and Spaun’s resilience.
