American Jerry Kelly secured the ISPS HANDA Senior Open Championship at Gleneagles, finishing two shots clear of the chasing pack to claim the third senior major title of his career.
The 59-year-old completed the tournament on 10 under par after producing a final-round score of 68 on the King’s Course. Kelly sealed the victory in style with a birdie at the final hole, recovering brilliantly from a greenside bunker before converting the putt.
Kelly began his closing round strongly, recording three birdies during his opening nine holes. Despite dropping shots at the sixth and 11th, he remained composed and did enough over the closing stretch to secure the Senior Claret Jug.
The victory adds to Kelly’s previous major successes at the Senior Players Championship in 2020 and 2022. It also earns him a place in the field for the 155th Open Championship, which will be played at St Andrews in 2027.
Kelly described winning the Senior Open in Scotland as particularly special, with the opportunity to compete at the Home of Golf next year adding even greater significance to the occasion.
Australian Cameron Percy, who shared the lead with Kelly heading into the final round, finished in a tie for second after an even-par 70. He was joined on eight under by South Africa’s Darren Fichardt and American Matt Gogel, who charged through the field with an impressive closing round of 63.
Gallacher Delights the Home Support
Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher produced one of the performances of the final day, firing an outstanding eight-under-par 62 to finish outright fifth on six under.
The four-time DP World Tour winner made five birdies during his opening nine before adding further gains at the 10th and 11th. His only dropped shot came at the 12th, but he responded immediately with another birdie at the 13th before finishing his round with a final gain at the 18th.
Gallacher’s superb closing round made him the highest-placed European in the tournament and gave the Scottish spectators plenty to celebrate.
The result completed another memorable edition of the Senior Open, with Gleneagles once again providing a magnificent setting for major championship golf.
