Scottie Scheffler Withdraws from PGA Tour Season Opener Due to Christmas Day Injury
World number one Scottie Scheffler will miss the opening tournament of the 2025 PGA Tour season after injuring his hand while preparing Christmas dinner.
The 28-year-old, fresh off defending his title at the Hero World Challenge earlier this month, had been slated to compete in The Sentry in Hawaii from January 2-5. However, Scheffler has been sidelined for three to four weeks following surgery to remove small glass fragments from his palm, sustained after an accident in the kitchen on Christmas Day.
“On Christmas Day, while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass,” his manager, Blake Smith, explained in a statement. “Small glass fragments remained in the palm, which required surgery. He has been told he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks but, unfortunately, will have to withdraw from The Sentry.”
Scheffler, who claimed his second Masters title and the 2024 FedExCup Championship, is expected to return for The American Express tournament in California from January 16-19.
The injury caps off a whirlwind year for Scheffler, who became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to win seven PGA Tour events in a single season, including The Players Championship and The Masters.
Fans will be eager to see if Scheffler can maintain his dominance when he returns to competition in 2025.
