Captain’s Drive-In Marks the Start of the Season

The 2026 golfing season officially got underway at Bonnyton Golf Club on Sunday 22nd March, as members gathered for the annual Captain’s Drive-In.

Club Captain Brian Caplan, alongside Lady Captain Fiona Howie and Junior Captain Marcus Wynne, all took to the Tiger Tee to open proceedings. Thankfully, all three produced solid opening drives much to everyone’s relief.

A special highlight of the day was the traditional piping from the clubhouse to the first tee, led by David Clapham, adding a fantastic touch to the occasion.

The event also raised £190 for the Captain’s chosen charity, Doing it for Daniel Foundation, with thanks to everyone who contributed.

On the course, the format was a 9-hole Texas Scramble, with some excellent scoring across the field.

Howard Lockhart, Graham Smith, David Smith and Richard Smith – 26.55

Ricky Zinger, Jack Cowan, Eddie Goldberg and William Dykes – 27.25

Congratulations also go to Andrew Ellison, who correctly guessed the winning yardage of the Captain’s drive and picked up a Penguin Golf jacket, kindly donated by Tony Links.

Prizes were awarded to the top two teams, with golf towels and gloves handed out.

Off the course, Andy and Hazel once again delivered excellent catering, rounding off a thoroughly enjoyable day for all involved.

With the season now officially underway and better weather on the horizon, we look forward to a fantastic year of golf at Bonnyton.
