Situated on high ground, just above the conservation village
of Eaglesham, Bonnyton offers spectacular views across the beautiful
Scottish countryside as far as snow-capped Ben Lomond, the Campsies
and beyond. The course is surrounded by dramatic, rolling, heather-covered moorland
and has been landscaped to combine the relaxing pastoral feel of mature
woodland with the drama of its natural surroundings.
From Eaglesham to Atlanta...
The rugged moorland above the village of Eaglesham may not appear to have anything in common with the humid wetlands of Georgia but they are linked by the vision of one man, legendary golf course designer, Dr. Alister MacKenzie.
"... prescribing golf to his problem patients furthered Dr MacKenzie’s fascination with the game and led to him becoming much in demand as a course architect" In the early 1930s, together with renowned amateur, Bobby Jones, MacKenzie created the world-famous Augusta National, home of the US Masters. However, as he left for America in 1926, MacKenzie had already advised on the design of over 300 golf courses including Bonnyton Moor.

I thought the design, layout and condition of Bonnyton was outstanding, as befitting its world famous designer, the renowned Dr Alister MacKenzie (also responsible for the likes of Augusta National, Cypress Point, and Royal Melbourne). Bonnyton has at least 2 other claims to fame, namely that President Bill Clinton is an Honorary Member and Sir Stanley Matthews married the then Club Master's daughter and
had his wedding reception in the clubhouse.
